Vital Check is a video work made as an extension of the Verifying series. Its title references physiological vital systems as well as vital documents- such as IDs and birth certificates. To create Vital Check, the artist projected the Verifying video (a video that shows copies of copies of their photo ID, degrading as it continues to get copied) in outdoor spaces and on their body. The artist uses the juxtaposition between body, land, and projected ID to challenge the logic of a government ID as a tool for granting privileges or metering resources.
